SHAWNEE'S USER MANUAL
A cheat sheet that provides insight into all of my personality quirks, values, and workplace desires.
MY STYLE
I am driven by a desire to make a difference.
I am comfortable and confident taking independent action on my ideas.
I thrive off challenging the status quo and get energy from thinking about how we could improve processes.
I trust my teams and give them the freedom and flexibility to do their work their way, but I need to be involved at key points and kept up to speed or I become frustrated.
I proactively connect quickly with others because I am open and sharing of myself.
I am eager for results and seek out swift implementation.
I work best in fast-paced environments offering variety, rather than routines.
I move at a faster-than-average pace and am inquisitive about the world around me.
COMMUNICATION
I am collaborative by nature and see value in working with and through others. I have an intuitive understanding of team cohesion, dynamics, and interpersonal relations.
It is my job to help remove barriers for my team to ensure progress on projects. So while I will make an effort to check in, I expect my teams to come to me with problems, plausible solutions, and their recommendation.
I value transparency and respect people who have the right blend of confidence and humility to know when to challenge a decision in a thoughtful and constructive way.
Tell me what I need to know, not what you think I want to hear.
WHAT I DON'T HAVE PATIENCE FOR
I am not territorial and do not like working with others who seek to hoard knowledge rather than lift the whole team up by sharing their knowledge or information.
People who play the blame game as it does not help to accomplish anything.
Professionals who believe they are the victim and think everything they do is somehow harder, so therefore they deserve special treatment.
WHAT PEOPLE MISUNDERSTAND ABOUT ME
I am frank and this sometimes comes off as harsh or abrasive, but I do not mean offense.
When I challenge ideas people sometimes think I am challenging them — I am merely trying to provoke debate to find the best possible solution rather than the first or easiest one.
I will always support a team member's personal growth, even if that means a loss for our team overall.
I genuinely want to know what my team thinks and take silence as a lack of interest or agreement with the team's decision. If that is ever not the case, I expect people to speak up now or never.
I make decisions quickly, but will happily change course when logic or data dictates a better route.
